Filing a lawsuit is not as simple as it seems. You have to locate the Defendant, fill out all the appropriate forms, which can be different depending on the court, file online (and some courts still require physical filing), pay, serve the Defendant and resolve any problems along the way.

Defending a deposition is very time consuming. You have to prepare yourself, prepare the client, sit through the deposition, object when necessary and evaluate the case as it stands after the deposition. Many times a deposition can determine the outcome of a case, whether it settles or goes to trial, and the timeframe in which resolution might occur.
